The Foundation for Alpine Research has supported ornithological research in two different ways. Firstly, it granted the costs of printing for work carried out by Volker Dorka and Willi Thoenen. Both of these works were original in subject and method. In addition, Fritz Hans Schwarzenbacb, scientific officer at the Foundation since 1961, also undertook mathematical/statistical analyses of ornithological observations in Switzerland. These biometric investigations provide examples of a targeted analysis within the large mass of ornithological information, which is difficult to grasp in overall terms.
